The winner of our prize draw with the Samsung Flat Screen TV is Nicky Layton of Horizon Homes
Well done Nicky!
2009 must surely be sublime!
Happy New Year to one and all
I trust everyone had a Yuletidetastic fall
Prior to the Christmas break, festivities & all that
Dear old "One Eye" Gordy reduced the rate of VAT
As our prudent PM continues to get his figures wrong
His panic stricken Party again bang the "borrow more" gong
Reducing VAT by 2½% is supposed to inspire the proletariat to spend
Cynics fear it's a cloak and dagger tax hike on the rich's stipend
How can Gordy borrow billions of pounds more
From an invisible, asset less bank, somewhere offshore
The repayments for such a profligate fiscal debacle will be high
Leaving us all to pay a heavy future price that no politician can deny
Is there any hope for us all in the current financial plight
We have to remain positive ... positive with all our might
Things could be worse ... I'm a Celebrity etc could run for weeks and weeks more
Mind you it's not as bad as Celebrity Big Brother which I deplore
In a fantasy world where Z list celebs try to reinvent their careers
We pleasure in their discomfort as they try to beat their fears
There's something worryingly satisfying seeing egos flag as they eat insects and the odd testicle
But I pity the marsupials who had their genitals removed in order to achieve this televisual spectacle
Perhaps we should get the politicians on such shows
What would they be prepared to do to up their "cred" ... God knows!
I seem to remember one said politician pretending to be a cat
He simply ended up looking like a complete T**t!
So onwards and upwards we all must go
Things will get better the MP's tell us and they must know
Ignore the terrorist attacks, the redundancies, the uncertainty of the modern day
We all have a voice, and we all have a vote, and something to say
Take solace in the fact events go in cycles ... this philosophy never fails
Down one minute we're up the next ... price increases followed by sales
Labour now ... possibly Conservatives next is doesn't really matter
They're all as bad as each other ... George Bush, after all, was as mad as a hatter!
It's all about the choices we make
There is only so much we can take
Think positive for 2009 and don't take things too seriously thereafter
The whole idea of this particular ode is simply to create a little New Year laughter...
