Dark coloured tiles, you don’t have to be afraid of using them!

Tiles are not an every day purchase so you might be a bit scared of using strong colours – but creating the dream style for your bathroom or kitchen is an opportunity to be a creative and express your personal tastes.

So impress your friends and family with bold colour ingenuity!

Bathroom Floors

Most bathroom wall tiles have floor tiles with the same surface effect, but in contrasting dark colours, and as UK bathrooms are not huge spaces, perhaps only 3 sqm, using a dark colour on the floor has these benefits

·      A more stunning contrast with your white loo/washbasin/bath will make these fixtures stand out more and look at their best

·      The same principal works in reverse-your white loo etc will “show off” how great the tiles look

Bathroom Walls

Creating features with dark colours to accentuate separate areas (a shower area for example) looks really sexy,so don’t be afraid, its not like your bathroom will look like a coal cellar!

Use a pale colour on three of the four walls with one wall in a dark tone from the same series, like this and the room will still feel light and spacious.

Of course you can be more dramatic as the right at the top of this page shows - go on feel the fear!!! - but just how stunning does it look? and there will be pale tiles for the other walls of course!

Alternatively a dark colour can be used to make vertical columns and dont forget that decorative range elements are often used in this way as shown here

Kitchen and conservatory floors

Its normal for kitchen’s and conservatories to have larger windows and the natural daylight that floods in creates a ‘bleaching’ effect , especially for pale colours. This means you can afford to use stronger tones without worrying about visually closing down the way the room looks.

Darker colours look really good if your base cabinets are pale, showing both elements off to best effect, like the kitchen shown below

Kitchen Walls

It’s the same on the walls, White kitchen cupboards with black or grey wall tiles will set each off and typically you will only buy 3 or 4 square metres so small areas wont effect the overall lightness of your kitchen.

Under pelmet lights are common nowadays and will add back brightness - so be brave!
